Two Penn State Great Valley faculty members co-chaired the local arrangements committee for the recently concluded Academy of Management 2007 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. Denise Potosky, associate professor of management and organization, and Eric Stein, associate professor of management science and information systems, helped to oversee a conference that brought nearly 9,500 participants and exhibitors to the Philadelphia Convention Center in August, at least 1,000 more than anticipated.
“The attendance at this conference was amazing, and the program itself was very well received,” said Potosky, of Kimberton. “I certainly think the success of the conference will encourage the organization to consider returning to the Philadelphia area in the future.”
Stein, of Media agreed, adding: "The event showcased Philadelphia as a world-class host to an international academic audience. It will produce many positive outcomes for the city and its institutions.”
The theme for the 2007 conference was “Doing Well by Doing Good,” during which management scholars discussed how firms can be financially successful, while at the same time trying to accomplish positive social goals and make life better for their employees and their communities. The Academy of Management, an international organization of approximately 18,000 members, is the leading professional organization focusing on the study of management and organizations.
