The Literacy Certificate, for K-12 teachers of all disciplines, teaches strategies for encouraging effective reading, writing, speaking, and thinking while teaching new concepts and linking prior knowledge. Attention is given to how culture and gender inform and influence learning and how to use these differences to enhance the learning experience. In each content area, K-12 students will benefit by learning to read better, to write expressively, to speak effectively, and to think critically within and across content areas.
To earn the certificate in Literacy Strategies Across Content and Cultures successful completion of three 3-credit graduate courses in Literacy (LL ED) are required. You may request a Graduate Certificate after completing the required course work with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
All four courses may be applied to the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy.
