A presentation and community discussion panel addressing homophobia in schools, hosted by Penn State Great Valley ’s Diversity Action Council, will take place Wednesday, November 2, in the Musser Auditorium of the Safeguard Scientifics Building . An Education Division Reception will be held from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. followed by the program from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Tom Sechrist, an education consultant, substitute administrator, strategic facilitator, and professional life coach, will make a brief presentation covering the following topics: Definitions and Levels of Homosexuality and Homophobia; Is Homosexuality a Choice?; Why Do We Care?; and Resources Available. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion involving gay students, parents of gay youth, gay parents, school officials, homophobia educators, and Gay Straight Alliance leaders.
Mr. Sechrist has over thirty-five years experience as an educator and school administrator. He currently is a consultant to various school districts, businesses, and universities. He has also been a consultant for parents of gay youth. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of The William Way Center in Philadelphia . He has worked in school environments locally including the Millersville, Downingtown, and York school districts.
