David Russell, professor of electrical engineering at Penn State Great Valley, was recently elected a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) by the organization's board of trustees. According to the organization, the Fellow designation is IMechE's highest elected grade of membership. It recognizes “exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession. Fellowship is awarded to members who have demonstrated significant individual responsibility, sustained achievement and exceptional professionalism during their careers.”

Russell, a faculty member at Penn State Great Valley for 22 years, has worked with mechatronic systems both in the laboratory and in the manufacturing setting for many years. He served as general chair of the MX2006 international mechatronics conference at Penn State Great Valley, and is helping to organize MX2008 in Ireland.

He said of the honor: “Earning this recognition from such a world-class organization isn’t something I had anticipated. It’s an amazing feeling to be recognized by your peers for contributions to the profession, and I’m sure it will serve as inspiration as I continue with my career.”

Penn State Great Valley Chancellor Diane M. Disney added: “This is a very special honor, and all of us at Penn State Great Valley are very proud of Dr. Russell's accomplishment.”

Russell, of Audubon, Pa., will deliver the final Engineering Lecture Series program at Penn State Great Valley for 2007, “Online Reconciliation of Inventory and Collected Data in a High-Volume Manufacturing Operation,” on Wednesday, November 28, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., in Room 228 Main Building.
