Frequently Asked Questions about Penn State Great Valley's Master of Finance Program

Q: How long is the Master of Finance program?
The M FIN is a 30-credit program that may be completed in 15 months in an accelerated, executive-style format, with courses meeting Friday evening and all day Saturday with one free weekend each month.

Q: Is the GMAT or GRE required?
Either the GMAT or GRE will be accepted for admission. Applicants holding an M.B.A., J.D., C.P.A., C.F.A. or doctoral degree are not required to submit standardized test scores.

Q: When can I apply?
New students are admitted to the Master of Finance program in the spring term, which begins in January. Applications should be submitted by November 30.

Q: Can students waive classes based on experience or academic background?
Students may not waive courses.

Q: Can students transfer in credits from other graduate programs?
Because the program is offered in a cohort, students may not transfer in courses from other institutions.

Q: Are prerequisite courses required?
Applicants should have successfully completed a minimum of course work in designated areas. Pre-program requirements include advanced undergraduate or graduate course credits in financial management/corporate finance, introductory business statistics, and microeconomics.

Q.  Will the Master of Finance program help prepare me for the CFA® exam?
Students will find a substantial number of courses in the Master of Finance program helpful in preparing for tests required for various professional certificates in finance, such as the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) program.
