Special Education Supervisory Certification

This programis for teachers who are permanently certified in special education or communication disorders and wish to enter special education administration.

Admission requirements

 To apply, you will need to 

  • hold Instructional II Certification in special education or communication disorders;
  • hold a master's degree in special education or a related area;
  • have 3 years special education teaching experience to begin the program;
  • submit all necessary forms, documentation, and fees.

You may begin in September, January, April, or June at the start of each session.  During the academic year – September through April – we offer classes in a 14-week format, 1 evening a week or a half-day on Saturdays.  Seven-week sessions are offered in the summer.

Program requirements

Fifteen credits of course work

  • 9 credits of core courses

• SPLED 501  (3)  Administration & Supervision of Educational Program for Exceptional Children
• SPLED 595C  (3)  Internship in Special Education Supervision
• EDLDR 562  (3)  Methods of Classroom Superivsion and Coaching

  • 6 credits of special education electives at the 400 or 500 level

During the program, you will complete all requirements for PDE certification including taking the Praxis exam. 

NOTE:  You will need to see the special education academic adviser  to design a plan of study.
