Graduate Certificate in Differentiated Instruction in General Education Classrooms

The Program

This four course certificate program for general classroom teachers concentrates on working with diverse student populations. 

  • No prerequisites are required for this certificate. 
  • All courses transfer into master's programs.   
  • You can take one course or all course offerings depending on your area of interest. 
  • You may register for any course in the curriculum.  There is no sequential order.
  • You may request a Graduate Certificate upon completion of the required course work with a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

The Curriculum

  • Orientation to Human Variation and Special Education Services: SPLED 425 (3 credits)
    The "Who, what, and why" of disabilities.
  • Motivating Exceptional Learners: SPLED 401 (4 credits)
    Getting students interested and ready to learn.
  • Instruction for Students with Mild Disabilities: SPLED 412 (4 credits)
    Effective and practical ways to teach all children.
  • Choose ONE of these courses based on your classroom setting and interest.

•  Content Enhancement for Secondary Students:  SPLED 597 (3 credits)
   Linking student learning with general education curriculum standards.

•  Working with Families and Professionals in Special Education:  SPLED 404 (3 credits)
   Improving collaboration, communication, and management skills in the learning environment.
