Accounting standards and disclosure issues pertaining to advanced financial accounting topics. Although these topics may be briefly addressed in basic accounting courses (ACCTG 512), this course will involve an in-depth examination of the issues and of the impact of these issues on financial statements. Prerequisites: MGMT 501 and M I S 531; Recommended: MGMT 541. A step-by-step model for analyzing human performance in the workplace and demonstrating how to connect productive performance with organizational goals. The application of the model is reinforced through case studies. previous page
MGMT 597 - Special Topics: Performance Consulting
Prerequisite: MGMT 501. This course enables students to improve their understanding of performance consulting versus training, while developing skills central to effective performance consulting. This is accomplished primarily through the realization that performance needs to be linked to organization goals and objectives. Students are required to demonstrate proficiency in and/or understanding of various aspects of business and organizational performance, consulting, and outcomes measurement. This includes case studies, presentations, classroom exercises and a final case study analysis. In every class meeting, students can expect to discuss pertinent topics, interact with each other during in-class activities, and present ideas to the class. Given this interactive format, it is imperative that students read the corresponding material prior to each class meeting so they are prepared to apply concepts and practice internal/external skills. previous page
OPMGT 510 - Operations Management

This course involves the design, development, and maintenance of processes, procedures and systems that transform resources into goods and services that meet customers’ needs. Students will learn how to design the system of value-adding processes (value chain) for manufacturing goods and delivering services and to design and manage the processes that support the value chain. previous page
OPMGT 597A - Global Supply Chain Management
Prerequisites: MGMT 501, ACCTG 512, and OPMGT 510. This course introduces the concepts of managing in a supply chain-focused environment. Students study basic supply chain activities and how these activities are managed within and between firms as well as how to manage the flow of products, services, information, and funds inherent in these activities. Students also study controlling the movement of goods and coordinating supply and demand in creating and maximizing time and place utility. Key concepts in supply chain management are managing supplier and customer relationships, procurement, inventory management, and the use of information technology. We also cover the role of the Internet and e-business in managing the flow of products and information through the supply chain. Topics covered include:

BUSAD 597 - Knowledge Management

This course is designed to explore the topic of knowledge management (KM). In our current fast-paced world, knowledge has become a new source of competitive advantage. The processes of knowledge creation, acquisition, retention, maintenance, indexing, retrieval and utilization are essential. KM is now on the short list of strategic objectives for firms large and small. Future managers thus need to better understand the issues and challenges posed by knowledge management. Students taking the course will learn about KM as a human social process and the role of information technologies. To understand how knowledge-based systems are implemented in the "real world," we will review various case examples that highlight the unique problems posed by KM to business organizations. Experts from industry will be invited to speak to the class and students are invited to attend the Knowledge Management Group of Philadelphia (www.kmgphila.org) meetings scheduled once a month during the term.
