M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction:   Instructional Leadership

The M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Instructional Leadership helps educators develop the leadership skills to improve staff development and instructional practices.   Course work includes the application of inquiry-based, problem-solving models of supervision and staff development, and evaluation of the impact of national and state standards on teacher performance and student achievement. 

During the program, you will complete a minimum of 30 credits.  At least 12 credits of course work needs to be completed at the 500-level and at least 6 credits need to be completed outside the department of curriculum and instruction. 

You should meet with the Curriculum and Instruction academic adviser to plan your course selections.

Core courses (9 credits)

  • CI 550:  Overview of Contemporary School Curriculum
  • CI 400:   Introduction to Research Literature or CI 501: Teaching as Inquiry
  • EDPSY 421:   Learning Processes in Relation to Educational Practices or ADTED 505:  The Teaching of Adults

Emphasis courses (12 credits)

You will select and complete 12 credits in Educational Leadership and related areas, such as

  • EDLDR 405:   Strategies in Classroom Management
  • EDLDR 551:   Curriculum Design: Theory and Practice
  • EDLDR 560:   Principles of Instructional Supervision
  • EDLDR 562:   Methods of Classroom Supervision and Coaching
  • EDLDR 563:   Designing Staff Development Programs
  • EDLDR 497:   Special Topics:  Collaborative Mentorship and Coaching 

Elective courses (6 credits)

In consultation with the C&I academic adviser, you will complete two courses in EDLDR, INSYS, SPLED, or other related areas.  

M.ED. Master's Paper (3 credits)

CI 596 or EDLDR 596:   Individual Studies/Master’s Paper
