Post-Master's Certificate in New Ventures and Entrepreneurship

The Post-Master's Certificate Program in New Ventures and Entrepreneurial Studies is for professionals starting new organizations (Entrepreneurship) or developing new ventures within the context of existing organizations (Intrapreneurship).  The courses stimulate creative drive and provide the knowledge needed to launch new products and services by developing managerial and technical business skills.  In addition, students expand corporate contacts and gain the experience and confidence to enable them to succeed with new ventures.

Students in this program come from a wide range of professional backgrounds including human resources, management, process and product redesign, re-engineering, and organizational design and development. 

The program offers courses in a 7-week format.  Seven-week classes meet 2 evenings a week. Fourteen-week classes meet 1 evening a week.  Several classes in the 7-week format are held on Saturdays.  There are six 7-week sessions each academic year.  Students may begin at the start of any session.

Admission requirements

Applicants should:

  • Hold a baccalaureate and an advanced (master's or above) degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Meet Post-Master's in New Ventures and Entrepreneurial Studies prerequisite competencies;
  • Submit all necessary forms, documentation, and fees.

Certificate requirements

The Post-Master's Certificate in New Ventures is 12 credits (4 classes).  If you have not completed a graduate-level organizational behavior course, you must also take MGMT 501: Behavioral Science in Business or its equivalent before enrolling in this program. 

Required course:

Choose 2 elective courses (must include ONE BUSAD class):

  • BUSAD 515  - Acquiring the Existing Enterprise
  • BUSAD 522 - New Ventures II
  • BUSAD 575 - High Tech Venture Development 
  • BUSAD 497/597 - Special Topics in New Ventures and Entrepreneurial Studies
  • FIN 532 - Financial Decision Processes (additional prerequisite of FIN 531 required)
  • LEAD 582 - Social Entrepreneurship and Community Leadership
  • MGMT 523 - Organizational Change
  • MGMT 541 - Human Resources Management
  • MGMT 573 - Corporate Innovative Strategies
  • MKTG 513 - Market Research (additional prerequisite of MKTG 500 required)
  • MKTG 516 - Product Development (additional prerequisite of MKTG 500 required)

Required capstone course: (pick one)

  • BUSAD 581 - Venture Strategy, Planning and Development OR
  • MGMT 571 - Strategic Management 


Post-Master's in New Ventures and Entrepreneurial Studies prerequisite competencies

Before enrolling in the Postmaster's Certificate Program in New Ventures and Entrepreneurial Studies, students must have completed a graduate-level organizational behavior course or take MGMT 501 (Behavioral Science in Business) or its equivalent. Other prerequisites may be required for finance and marketing electives.
