Join us on April 20, 2006 at 7 p.m. in Musser Auditorium at Penn State Great Valley when the Diversity Action Council presents Playback for Change, a Philadelphia area troupe of actors and musicians, who will present an interactive, improvisational performance in which the real life experiences of the audience are the subject matter. The event will focus on the dimensions of diversity we live with every day. Audience volunteers will have the opportunity to tell personal stories about “isms and phobias” and see them embodied by the playback troupe. Through the telling and enactment of these stories, an intellectual discussion about diversity is transformed into a heartfelt experience for tellers and non-tellers alike, and the community can become stronger and more welcoming to all.
Playback for Change welcomes all kinds of stories about discrimination, isms, and phobias including
-
Stories about experiencing and/or witnessing discrimination first hand
-
Stories about standing up and resisting “isms,” and stories about not knowing what to do
-
Stories about being a strong ally to someone being discriminated against, and stories of not coming to the aid of someone in need of support
-
Stories of being the person acting out an “ism,” whether intentionally or unintentionally
-
Stories of beloved community
Come ready to learn more about yourself and others. Deepen your compassion and understanding for people different from you, and broaden your capacity for action as we explore how best to be allies for one another.
This event is free and open to the community.
